RoseMatta rice or also known as Red Parboiled Rice is a native variety of rice grown in the Palakkad district of the Indian state of Kerala. The strain is known for its coarseness and health benefits. It is popular in Kerala and coastal Karnataka in India and Sri Lanka, where it is regularly used for idlys, appams and for a simple rice dish. It differs from brown rice. Red Matta's bold and earthy flavor makes it suitable to accompany lamb, beef or game.
