Puttu (Tamil: புட்டு) is a dish of Indian cuisine that is particularly common in the southern Indian state of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Sri Lanka. These are steamed fritters traditionally made from coarse rice flour and coconut and served with bananas, chickpeas (kadala curry) and papadam for breakfast. In addition, there are numerous variations; to sweet puttu with jaggery, ghee and cardamom. In Kerala, puttu has the status of a national dish.
